The Department of World Languages and Cultures, in collaboration with the Global Studies Program, offers the Global Professional Pathways Certificate in French, German, Russian, and Spanish.
This certificate program provides students a clear path to combine foreign language study with experiential learning abroad opportunities such as intensive foreign language study, internships, and research opportunities. This combination will help students be able to integrate cross-cultural communication skills into their chosen careers and provide them invaluable skills to advance in their careers.
The requirements for the Certificate are sixteen (16) hours of course work and participation in a UAH-approved education abroad program for a minimum of four continuous weeks in a country where the target language is spoken as a major language. Students are encouraged to study abroad for at least a semester and seek to integrate an internship or research abroad experience into their time abroad.

All foreign language coursework must be done in a single language.
At least three of the five WLC courses must be taken at UAH.
Average grade of B or higher is required for all language courses, and a grade of B or higher for GS 450.
To be awarded the Certificate upon graduation, students must officially declare the Certificate with a college advisor to have it added to their program of study. Then, they must request for it to be audited when they apply for graduation and go through the degree audit process. Certificate programs are not audited automatically.
Students with some prior knowledge of the language can test out of lower level courses and be placed into higher courses. For the courses they test out of, students will receive up to (6) departmental credit hours, but no grades or quality points, towards completion of the Certificate. If the student tests out of more than six (6) hours of courses, they are encouraged choose a language Minor or Major in conjunction with the Certificate. Also, if the student tests out of more than (6) hours, they must complete coursework for the remaining 10 hours of the certificate. Unlike Major and Minor programs, no coursework/hours may be waived from the 16 hours required for the Certificate. Post-Baccalaureate students are not eligible for department credit.
