The Data Science Concentration consists of 15 hours, taken as follows:

Computational Statistics/Algorithm Design, must take both courses (6 hours):
INTRO TO BIG DATA COMPUTING
DES & ANALY OF ALGORITHM
Group A, select 2 courses (6 hours):
DEEP LEARNING
MACHINE LEARNING
DATA MINING
DATA BASE SYSTEMS
Group B, select 1 course (3 hours):
SURVEY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
INTRO TO MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS
INTRO COMPUTER GRAPHICS
INTRO TO CLOUD COMPUTING
MODELING & SIMULATION I
MODELING & SIMULATION II
DATA COMPRESSION

Note that a student in the MS in CS program can easily complete this concentration while also completing the MS in CS. The MS in CS has 3 core courses (9 hours) where one of these is CS 617 which is a required course for the Data Science certificate. The non-thesis MS in CS has 8 electives and the thesis MS in CS has 5 electives; the remaining 4 courses required for the data science concentration may count as 4 of these elective courses.

The breadth requirements for admission to the MS in CS with Data Science Concentration will be the same as for admission to the current MS in CS program. The current Graduate Catalog lists these as follows:

Breadth Requirements

Applications to graduate programs in Computer Science must satisfy the following breadth requirements before admission to the program.
