The CME Department offers two plans leading to the MSE degree for the Chemical Engineering option.  These are designated:

  • Plan I (Thesis),
  • Plan II (Non-thesis)

The following sections describe the requirements for each of these options. Additional requirements, policies and required forms may be found in the CME Department office.

Basic Program of Study

The Basic Program of Study, common to both the Plan I and Plan II (Non-thesis) MSE options, contains a minimum of 24 semester hours of graduate-level course work that must include:

Select an engineering major consisting of 12 semester hours of graduate courses including supporting engineering courses12

Select a first minor of 6 semester hours of graduate courses in an approved engineering area of specialization6

Additional CHE courses and/or other five/six-hundred level courses listed in the graduate catalog can be used as elective courses. Students are required to select an academic advisor and set up the MSE Program of Study early on to identify these elective courses.
